At the end of an unsealed road, with a line of cypress trees framing the picture, there is an old style renovated villa. We entered and the lovely Luisa welcomed us. Nothing better than an almost coffee, turned into an afternoon Spritz, turned into an overnight stay to warm up our hearts!
The Agriturismo Il Rigo is the epitome of the Tuscany experience: an organic family farm, in a 18th century house, surrounded by nature. The only sound: birds.
Luisa and her family run the place with such love and care it is very easy to fall in love and very hard to leave. Everything you eat is locally sourced in Pienza or San Quirico d'Orcia, grown around the Agriturismo and homemade. Like the Pici (the traditional pasta in Tuscany) here below.
Incredibly generous with her time, smiles, passion and knowledge about the surrounding area, Luisa gave us very good tips about local producers that we are now in touch with for the Red Beetle shop.
We would have talked to Luisa's Dad for hours, and we probably had... We had the most wonderful time and we cannot wait to go back. One of us liked it so much he forgot some of his clothes there... A sign, a sign indeed.
