From Asia to Middle East, Europe and South America, saffron* has been used for over 3,000 years in medicine, beauty and of course food. The harvest of the delicate bright threads is one of the hardest, making saffron the most expensive out there.
Thanks to old traditions, love and passion, Zafferano Piceno brings to our table a superior quality of Crocus sativus (pure saffron). This is pure saffron stems, from the area of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region of Italy.
HOW TO USE IT
In Italy, saffron is most famously used in the Risotto alla Milanese. To extract the colour, dissolve the bright red threads in a warm liquid, if you are adding it to food opt for cream or butter.
WHY WE LOVE IT
After carefully removing the stigmas from the flowers, the drying process is carried out on the same day of picking, next to a very specific type of wood embers. This convey a whole new level of flavours to the saffron, and the recipes you use this in, which we absolutely adore!
